Beach cleanup workout
The idea started actually after I got a rescue dog in my house. The little munchin has a lot of energy. So I needed a place for him to run and get tired fast 😀 What is better than the beach. “Great” i thought. Thinking it would give a moment of forced peace every day as well. But when we first got to the beach my heart sank.
All the winter storms have brought tons of garbage and plastic from the ocean to the beach. And who was there to clean it up? No one.. I couldnt just walk passed all that plastic and not pick it up, but within 5 min I had more plastic than I could handle in my arms. Kinda frustrating. But it made plan better for the next trip to the beach. I figured “well, Im gonna go here every day from now with my dog El Guapo, so I might as well do something good while Im there”.
The easiest part is that you dont need much to do this. You need:
- your two feet and your two hands
- a bag to gather the trash
- music on your ears or maybe you best 4 legged friend as companion
- to locate the recycling bins in the area

So Now I always bring a disposable bag with me and always fill it up with trash. Hopefully one day the beach will be just sand and no plastic. I can actually see some difference already. Today I took it to a new step and realised “its kind of a nice workout”. Every time I find something I need to pick up, I basically do a “deep squat”, or a “good morning”. Today I did about 50 deep squats and 30 good mornings. Nice way to wake up the body and legs in general. and not to mention al the times I had to run after my munchin dog who just does not listen, so there were some interval sprints in the mix too! 😀
Moral of the day: use the recycling bins for what they are worth, and bring some trash home from the beach or the streets if you see any. Its not that hard, and its good for you and the environment. Win-Win 😀

Tomorrow my plan is to bring a back pack and fill it with sand to get some weight on there as welll. Sooner or later this is bound to be a win – win. Stronger legs, or at least a cleaner beach.
